Edinburgh Review: An Evening With Psychosis

A show where psychology collides with science fiction, where real life testimonies about psychosis are woven into a spaceship’s voyage into the cosmos and consciousness? Think Red Dwarf by way of Carl Jung and you’ll start to get the idea of what is going on here. Science fiction is a neat lens through which to examine psychosis (psychotic fantasies often involve satellite messages and alien presences) and the play is slickly and inventively performed. Sometimes it is too zany, and sometimes it simply doesn’t work, but though it doesn’t offer many answers it is willing to ask a few of the difficult questions concerning how we judge and treat psychotic individuals in our society. An intriguing theatrical experiment.
